Why choose
hypnotherapy

There are  many myths and misconceptions about hypnotherapy, for example, the idea that you may lose control or be induced into engaging in involuntary actions. It has been believed that hypnosis is mystical or even magical but neither are true.

The experience of hypnotherapy and being in a trance state is similar to daydreaming. For example whilst sitting on a train or driving along a familiar route or deep in concentration. In fact, we go in and out of trance all the time and is a normal state of mind. During hypnotherapy you will remain in control, be aware of what is happening, remember your experiences and be able to come out of trance whenever you choose to do so.

Hypnotherapy has always been available and has become widely used as a reliable way of reducing anxiety related issues.  Hypnotherapy is becoming one of the fastest growing therapies and has shown a 93% success rate, requiring fewer sessions than other talking therapies to achieve results. Perhaps surprisingly the benefits can sometimes happen very quickly and has been known to have both profound and long-term effects.

 What is Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind and induced through concentration and focusing on a particular thought or idea.  As a therapeutic tool hypnosis is extremely powerful in accessing our unconscious thought patterns and behaviours. The subconscious part of the brain is more open to suggestion, responds well to positive new ideas.  Hypnotherapy may help you to  build confidence, achieve goals and reduce symptoms of anxiety.

How do I prepare for a hypnotherapy session

As preparation and to support  the work we are going to do (if online), you will be asked to find a suitable warm,  comfortable and quiet space in which you can fully relax without any distractions. You will be asked to place your mobile on silent and may wish to cover yourself with a blanket or shawl to keep you warm.

What will I experience during a hypnotherapy session

Each session is individually tailored to suit the clients needs.

THE INITIAL CONSULTATION is an opportunity to build  trust and establish a good rapport between the client and hypnotherapist. Thus creating a safe environment to relax and learn a little about the science of the brain, why you are feeling like you do and what we can do to help. Any questions are encouraged and I would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability.  Subsequent sessions are individually tailored to suit the clients needs.

INDUCTION

A selection of carefully chosen techniques including repetition, guided breathing and visualisation warm-ups, language patterns, deepeners and metaphors.

EMERGENCE

During this phase the client is gently brought out of the trance state by using different grounding techniques. You will be reorientated back into an awareness of your surroundings. This is normally a pleasant experience and you may feel a little tired and unwilling to come out of trance.  Occasionally a client may fall asleep, so the emergence stage is helpful in this transference so you can feel awake and re-energise before you leave. If the session is online and you fell asleep, I usually leave you to rest and suggest that you send me a text when awake so that we can end the session.

DEEPENER

As you become more deeply relaxed you will begin to enter into the  subconscious part of your mind and deeper layers of trance and relaxation. You will gradually disconnect from your immediate surroundings whilst still fully aware and in control. At this point your thoughts will begin to relax and slow down. You may experience this state of mind as a feeling of letting go and you begin to focus inwards. At this point of trance the subconscious mind is now more open to suggestion.

REFLECTION

At the end of the session and at your own discretion, there will be an opportunity to share any insights that you may have gained. Although sometimes a quiet reflection may be advised. NB To support the work that we do you will be given a FREE MP3 relaxation recording which you can listen to daily.
